Making Magic Together: Dresser Build Event with DVIP/RVAP & HiH

Houses into Homes has joined forces with DVIP/RVAP to furnish and decorate SIX new townhomes, in a first-of-its-kind transitional housing project designed for survivors of Domestic or Sexual Violence. To bring the comforts of home to these units, we need lots of dressers and nightstands. That's where you come in, we need you to help us pull them out of thin air!

Please join us from 6-8pm on August 11th at the Houses into Homes warehouse to help build enough nightstands and dressers for every bedroom. There is no cost to join; however, registration is required. Registration and check-in will begin at 5:45, followed by a welcome and instructions after the event’s start time.

If you are a business or organization interested in sponsoring the event, or providing food/drink for a fun evening, please write to directors@housesintohomes.org. All funds raised will be used exclusively to support the townhome project.

We look forward to seeing you on August 11th for an evening of community and maybe a few abracadabras!

One Nightstand

Join us at our second annual One Nightstand for charity build event on Wednesday, July 29th at 6:30 to 8 PM at Big Grove in Iowa City!

In teams of 3, we'll build nightstands that come in ready-to-assemble kits with detailed instructions. It's a fun, hands-on activity that also happens to directly benefit your friends and neighbors in Johnson County experiencing furniture poverty. We can never have enough nightstands, so you'll beef up our inventory and have a blast doing it. 

We have two ticket packages:

  • Option 1 includes 1 builder ticket and 1 drink ticket for $35.

  • Option 2 includes all that plus a discounted T-shirt for a total of $60.

  • Can't make it to the event but want a "Ask me about my One Nightstand for Charity T-shirt? Buy one on our website for $30!

Schedule:

6:15-6:30pm: Begin Registration and Gathering
6:30-6:45pm: Welcome & Instructions
6:45-7:45pm: Build a ready-to-assemble Nightstand
7:45-8:00pm: Load nightstands into truck & Clean up recycling/trash

Tickets:

Iowa City Arts Fest - June 6-7, 2026

TURN ART INTO IMPACT AT THE 2026 IOWA ARTS FESTIVAL!

We are proud to partner with Summer of the Arts again this year. We’ll be collecting meaningful donations of artwork during the Iowa Arts Festival weekend. Help provide comfort and beauty to families in our community who are exiting homelessness, domestic violence, or other crises.

How can you help?
- Artists: Donate a piece of wall or functional art (e.g., bowls, cutting boards).
- Festival-goers: Buy a piece from your favorite artist and donate it at the Houses into Homes booth!

Your donated art will be thoughtfully matched with the style and preferences of families as their new homes are prepared — turning a space into a sanctuary.

- Visit the Houses into Homes booth during Art Fair hours (Saturday 10 AM - 6 PM & Sunday 10 AM - 4 PM) to drop off your donation and pick up a receipt for tax purposes.
- You’ll also have the opportunity to learn more about HiH’s mission and ongoing community impact.

Let’s celebrate the power of creativity, generosity, and local collaboration.

Give old furniture a fresh start and help a family feel at home. Join us at Flip it Forward on Nov 16th for a day of upcycling and community!
