Ask me about my One Nightstand (2026)

Towards the end of July, Houses into Homes hosted our second annual One Nightstand event at Big Grove in Iowa City. Members and friends of the community joined us on July 29th to build nightstands for our neighbors in need. A total of 20 nightstands were built, and we had over 50 attendees, an increase from last year's event. We surpassed this year's goal of 40 sign-ups by 15 tickets!

The team set up at Big Grove and welcomed participants for check-in around 6:15, with building starting shortly after. Participants were able to grab a drink and settle in before the real challenge began. Our Executive Director, Ian Cawley, kicked off our event by welcoming everyone and sharing a bit about what Houses into Homes is all about.

The energy was high as building began, drinks and conversation flowing between teams and attendees alike. This year, a $35 ticket to One Nightstand covered the cost of the dresser and a free drink ticket for attendees. We also offered a $60 package, which included the same, as well as a One Nightstand T-shirt.

As the night went on and people finished their nightstands, attendees hung around till the end, conversing and connecting. Ian closed out the night by thanking everyone for coming and promoting HiH’s upcoming events such as Making Magic Together and our fall fundraiser. We are happy to have had such a successful and impactful event while being able to connect with those around us. Thank you to all who attended, and we look forward to seeing you again at our next One Nightstand!
