Houses into Homes delivered a bed for the first time in 2018, to a young schoolchild who was spending nights on the floor. A simple, single act of kindness planted a seed that a generous community has nurtured into a perennial garden: 6,000 friends and neighbors feeling more comforts of home and 1,000 tons of lovingly restored furniture and household goods given new life, rescued from a future at the dump.

The positive impact of a furnished home on an individual’s or a family’s physical and psychological well-being is no small thing. Turning an empty house into a full home is a transformative gift. And it’s one that our community has given to our neighbors over and over again, in every neighborhood in town:

In 2025, we are at a crossroads. We’ve begun adding referral agencies for the first time in nearly 4 years; at the same time an erosion of the safety nets for our vulnerable neighbors creates more furniture poverty. Upstream, the same factors contribute to lower item and financial donations. Through August 2025, active referrals for our services have increased 37%, to 742 people. In the same period, in-kind furniture pickup requests have not scaled, and financial donations remain flat.

Home Sweet Home “110 Households” Campaign

Fortunately, we are not powerless! The factors which contribute to furniture poverty are largely out of our control, but the way we come together in response is up to us. If you feel so called:

Our fundraising goal is simple: $750 per household served in the next 3 months, to maintain the service level our recipients deserve all through the holiday season. The funds cover things like the cost of truck fuel and maintenance, facility expenses, and bed bug dog inspections. And of course, our professional staff to coordinate all of it; volunteers, logistics, and connections with families in order to intentionally select furnishings. For less than a typical new couch, you provide a house full of comfort that lasts years: a good night’s sleep, a family meal around a table, and a sturdy well-lit homework desk

Whether you’re a local business, a family, a faith organization, or an individual, you are equally valuable to our community. And whether you can contribute enough for a bed or a city block, your gift is large.

By accepting this call for a “1 of 110 Households” team leader designation and raising $750 between now and October 9th from your friends, co-workers, family, and neighbors, you provide immeasurable well-being to a household of not-yet-known friends and neighbors. At the same time, you raise more awareness and attention for our work. You help HiH continue the journey of enhancing our collective quality of life, that started with a simple, solitary act. You signal that together, we are enough. Because:

Together we make it home.
